Small break…

I know I haven’t posted in a while…which is very naughty of me and it is not that I don’t care or I am no longer doing boudoir photography. It is that I took a little break to plan my wedding and get married.

It was a hectic yet amazing experience. We decided to get married at Sante Hotel & Spa in Paarl, Cape Town. Everyone asks why would you get married in Cape Town…just look at the photo below and you will find yourself asking why wouldn’t you get married in the Cape. It is the sheer beauty that the Cape beholds…mountains, vineyards, sea, beaches…your options are endless. You know being a photographer – these things are important :)

I will not bore you with any further details, expect I am sure you want to know who the photographer was…It was my dear friend and super talented photographer – Claire Nicola King of Claire Nicola Photography

Celtic heart wrist tattoo

I know this is my Pretty Boudoir photo blog but I also feel that from these blogs and images you should get a sense of who I am. As a lot of who I am, is in my photography, so here is a little insight into me :)

I decided that I wanted a tattoo on my wrist…I already have 2 which I had done about 9 years ago. I have been thinking about getting another one for some years but hadn’t found a design that spoke to me. However, last week I found a design online, so I booked, paid and had it done yesterday.

The design I found was a Celtic heart design with the triquetra (all my tattoo’s are Celtic…they have a deep spiritual meaning for me). I had the tattoo done at Fallen Heroes in Parkhurst…like wow, fab place! I was so impressed with their professionalism and work…Bryan du Rand did such a fab job and I would highly recommend him for any work you want done. Go have a look at his portfolio…some really beautiful custom work!

Also, he really helped to calm me down, as he realised I was a little nervous. I was expecting it to be very painful…as the others were so long ago…I couldn’t remember. However, I must admit it hardly hurt…which was a pleasant surprise.

Well, I am sure you all want to know what it looks like. So here is a celphone pic I took right after it was completed. I must just say another huge thank you to Bryan and the team at Fallen Heroes for such a fantastic experience…might see you in a future ;)

A couple of peach blossoms

Close friends of mine asked if I would do a couples shoot for them on his family farm. They have lived on the farm since they were married, however they recently bought a house in Norscot. Therefore, we thought it would be great to be able to take some of the memories of the farm with them to the new house. They grow peaches on the farm, and the peach trees were in bloom and looked so beautiful – so it was the perfect time :)

I arrived at 6:40am (which if you know me, is very early for any morning – Garith didn’t even come with as it was just too early) to start the shoot. We had a beautiful morning with fantastic soft light. Great fun was had by all … we laughed so much … especially as I practically climbed into the one peach tree to get a few shots and left with half the flowers down my shirt…the lengths I will go to, too get the shot…hehe!

We finally finished the day off by the almond trees, where we hung the chalk board to get a pretty and fun shot.

Spice up my Life

In the spirit of Women’s month, Spice4Life has chosen and featured a large arrange of women from all walks of life. I am honoured to be one of them!

I filled in an array of interview style questions and submitted a photo of myself…crossed my fingers…and hoped that it would be featured and sure enough it was :)

If you thought you knew everything there was to know about me, I am sure you will learn something new from this article. It explores every aspect of my life from my passion – photography, family, inspiration to the places I love in JHB.

If you are interested in reading the whole article go to:

In addition, I am reposting the awesome photo that Candice took of me that has been featured with the article – that way you can recognise me…hehe :)

Belle Oie

Photographed the beautiful and sexy Miss G a few weeks ago.

She is also a very talented pole dancer…I think it shows in the images as she can move her body in ways I certainly can’t…hehe :)

Her breath-taking make-up was done by Jana Kriel of Jana Kriel Makeup. Her work is so fab – totally love the colours she used here, really makes Miss G’s eye pop! Thanks Jana…you rock :)

Like, Write and Win

It is that time of year – we want to stay huddled up at home by the heater. So why not do it with ur laptop or in front of your pc, where you can be on Facebook. Then you can enter the Pretty Boudoir competition, which could win you a photo shoot worth R2 500!

How it works : Round up all your friends, get them to like my page and write the following on my timeline : ‘(Your Name) referred me’ and you could win. If of course you have the highest number of referred friends :)

However, there is one catch : you have to be based in Joburg or able to get here on your own. As the photo shoot will be in Joburg and unfortunately Pretty Boudoir will not be supplying transport or accommodation to get to the shoot, that is for your own account.

Entries close on the 31st August at 12h00 – so get liking and writing to win!

Some Food for the Soul

Last week I had so much fun doing a spicy food shoot for Bandito’s,  which was organised by Celeste Hewett from CH Communications.

The recipes were developed, prepared and cooked by Tantalizing Taste Events, who also hosted the shoot at their premises in Midrand. The dishes were styled by Taryne Jakobi.

If you are wanting to spice up your dishes at home, why not try out any of the Bandito’s products, they are divine. You must check out their website to get some of these yummy recipes so you too can make these dishes – the Jalapeno, bacon and cheddar corn bread is to die for – I have already made it 4 times since I tasted it Wednesday last week.

A little food for Thought

Today I had the pleasure of shooting the Staffords media lunch which was held at their offices in Modderfontein. It is an event that they try to hold annually, relevant and select media are invited to come and experience Staffords’ extensive and delicious range of products. It also gives the media the opportunity to meet and interact with the brand manager and PR contact.

The catering was done by Kym Norris of Tantalizing Taste Events. They really do make the most amazing mouth-watering food. They will cater any event, from a birthday, wedding to large corporate gatherings. At the end of the month, I am shooting some more of Kym’s amazing food for a different client…watch this space for more divine food pics ;)

Here are a few pics of the food from the day :

P.S – Just so that you all know (in case you were wondering), my other brand is Brush with Film which is all the other photography I do other than Boudoir. I do a lot of corporate, lifestyle, event and food photography for a large range of clients. I am loving food photography, it is such fun and so delish ;)

Cupcakes Galore!

I recently had a cupcake and champagne birthday party…What a hit with the guests! They loved it! I had 14 different flavours of cupcakes – making it very difficult to choose which one you wanted to try first. Some of the flavours were Peppermint Crisp, Black Forest, Red Velvet and Bar One, to name but a few.

If you are ever looking for some divine and delectable cupcakes for a birthday, wedding or just a little treat…you must try Cupcake Boutique in Lonehill Shopping Centre. You can order online – which I used and thought was fab or pop into their store! They even do customised orders for that special occasion.

Below are a few pics that I took of the cupcakes…this is a photography blog after all…hehe!

The Move

I have been absent for a while, as I moved from a tiny little flat into a big beautiful house. Therefore, it took a while and a lot of pleading to get Telkom to fix and install my telephone/ADSL line.

I am happy to announce that I am back in the land of the living as I have been feeling very cut off from the real world. Amazing how we come to reply on the internet so much, a Blackberry is great, keeps me up-to-date on emails and Facebook but I find that I prefer to use my laptop when typing up a blog or browsing the net.

Also, another little update, I have changed jobs, and have been given my notice period off, so I am available to do shoot anytime during the month of April. So anyone that is interested, just give me a shout ;)

This week, I will finish putting up the pics and stories of the last few ladies that I shot at the boudoir party all those weeks ago :)

Here is a not so great pic of the new house (the section on the far right will become my studio – can’t wait till it’d finished)
